What is Dance/Movement Therapy? Based on the understanding that the body, mind and spirit are interconnected, dance/movement therapy uses non-verbal means of expressions to further integrate your emotional, cognitive and physical well-being. My approach: As a psychoanalyst who is trained to listen to the unconscious mind and as a licensed Dance Movement Psychotherapist, I attend to a client's movement as it naturally occurs, just as I would listen to words in verbal therapy. I believe that movement reflects internal relational processes and multiplicity of self states. I am trained to pay attention to indicators of body rhythms, changes in breath and muscle tension and the changing shapes of posture, all together reflects emotional expression, emotion regulation, and shifts in internal self-states. In the process of therapy, by becoming more aware of one's nonverbal expressions, accompanying internal images and sensations, a powerful process of change occurs. Together we will find ways to facilitate effective ways to create desirable shifts from immobilized self state to an enlivened and creative state. Furthermore, by becoming aware of improved capacity for emotion regulation you will ultimately enhance your confidence and self esteem.
